On December 2, the closing conference of the 2020 cycle of the Palladio Institute was held, developed by the Palladio Foundation, in the presence of Bernard Cazeneuve, former Prime Minister, former Minister of the Interior, former mayor of Cherbourg-Octeville and sponsor of the cycle. "This collection is the fruit of the crossed views provoked by major witnesses during the seminars and debates that we organize during the year between managers of the professions concerned by the real estate and urban issue, public and private decision-makers, researchers and the media" , emphasizes Gilbert Emont, director of the Palladio Institute. "It brings together the thematic contributions developed by the listeners, then put into perspective according to a common thread of reflection specific to each cycle, and which refers to this new" Urban Society "which is asserting itself. "

Gilbert Emont and the leader-auditors of the 2020 cycle highlighted a few key ideas that reflect all of the reflections of the year, in particular:

  • The planet has entered a post-Neolithic era based on the urban as the dominant mode of inhabitation. The knowledge economy is based on this dimension, in particular through the movement of metropolization, and allows access to knowledge through various modes of dissemination and sharing of ideas. This is the time for democratized knowledge and for broadly open participation in its development.
  • A much larger population than before contributes to these exchanges and the collective participation of the inhabitants is expressed in particular through the associative world [...]
  • The multiple links that new technologies make it possible to develop lead to a more transversal approach to exchanges and group enrichment which makes collective intelligence a new force, whether it emanates from a specialized community or a local authority [... ]
  • In addition, the recent emergence of territorial innovation clusters allows the interface between researchers, companies and their communities. It shows the strength, always creative, of physical proximity and daily exchanges within cities. In this context, the war of links and places will not take place and real estate intended to host exchanges remains of paramount importance, even if it is necessary to redefine its contours [...]
  • Real estate should not translate functions that are fixed and quickly devalued by virtual exchange, but offer places capable of welcoming life and expressing common sense.

About the Palladio Foundation
The Palladio Foundation was created in 2008, under the aegis of the Fondation de France, around the major issue of the 21st century, which is the construction of the City and places of life. Apolitical and non-confessional, and with its mission of general interest, it is a place of meetings, exchanges, debates and reflection that differs from a think tank, a club, a professional federation, 'a training institute or a research center. It mobilizes and brings together all sectors and professions concerned by real estate and urban issues (planning, architecture, insurance, banking, construction, energy, environment, real estate, engineering, logistics, digital, transport, town planning, etc.), public authorities, the world associations, researchers and the media. So that the City is the most human, livable, sustainable, inclusive and creator of values, the Foundation intervenes directly with the actors who make or will make the City, by creating the support tools necessary for collective commitment (University of the City of Tomorrow), taking a step back (Institut Palladio), preparing for relays (Pôle Avenir Palladio) and anticipation (Palladio innovation-research connector). Through the intersection of views between economic and political decision-makers, leaders and experts, students and professionals, university researchers and researchers in companies, each action of the Foundation contributes to nourish a process of questioning, openness and mutual enrichment. The Foundation wants to create the conditions so that each player in real estate and in the city is always in a better position to respond to the major current and future challenges, whether they are economic, environmental, social or societal.
